VILAMOURA ENVIRONMENTAL PARK

NATURE'S JOURNEY

The trail of the Vilamoura Environmental Park is just over five kilometers long, starting near the banks of Ribeira de Quarteira, where you can see a dense riverside vegetation. Right after the start, the trail passes next to the Etypic Center of Vilamoura and enters the agricultural fields of cereal cultivation where you can also see carob, almond and fig trees, typical of the unirrigated orchards of the Algarve.

Advancing on the trail and exploring the Vilamoura Environmental Park you can visit two bird observatories. The first inserted in the agricultural area and next to the golf course and a second next to the caniçal of Vilamoura, wetland of great wealth, particularly of bird life. In the observatories you can enjoy the full contact with nature and observe, without disturbing, a large number of birds and other animals.

POULTRY

The location of farmland, juncal, parks and lakes help attract birds throughout the year, including the rare Red Heron (Andrea Purpurea), the Waiter (Lxobrychus Minutus), the Cayman (Porphyrio) and the Sapeira Eagle (Circus Aeruginosus).

In both bird observatories found in the lakes, you will find guides showing potential bird species and their appearance.

FLORA

In the Vilamoura Environmental Park you will find a wide variety of flora, including Carob trees (Ceratonia Siliqua), Olive Trees (Olea Europaea), Almond trees (Prunus Dulcis) and Fig trees (Ficus Carica).

Throughout agricultural land cereals are grown, including wheat, barley, rye and corn. In the wetlands you will find reeds (Phragmites Australis and Juncus Sp) and wide/narrow planks (Típede Latifolia and Typa Angustifolia) in vast quantities.
